On the plus side, you have a massive used market, lots and lots of nearby bike stores of all types. I'm pretty sure you have a bike cooperative or two nearby, where filthy hippies will help teach you to fix things.

>So cheap bike then?Is bad enough that even if you bought a new bike, you should add stickers and dirt to make it less attractive. If you're completely mechanically incompetent, or have a good bike store very close, you might try an entry level bike there.
Otherwise, try used. Hipster tax has drained most of the good old road bikes. Lots of old mountain bikes and hybrids are viable cheaply.
