It seems like many collectible markets are maxed out or already past the peak.
Vintage cars are slipping in price as are many types of art and memorabilia.
Is the collectible bicycle market going to suffer the same fate or is it obscure enough that it wont suffer the mainstream trends?

Antiques will almost always increase in price because they are rare and it's not possible to make more of them.

Cars are in a bubble but it's real too. By the time the bubble crashes and the economy recovers, Supras are still gonna be going for $150k. Markets will ebb and flow, some will get red hot, but rarely will they totally dry up.

Some antiques fall out of favor for decades.
Right now antique furniture is just about dead. There are warehouses full of it that no one wants.

I'm fantasizing about collecting bikes all the time. The problem is that I don't have a loft.
There are so many cool bikes from the 80's and 90's. Recently saw a Kettler Alu Rad Windsor edition, it was purple and had royal fonts all over.
Collecting this shit will become a thing, I'm sure.

only older steel vintage mtbs that make good comfy casual rides are desirable

same with road bikes
late 90s/early 00s bikes don't have classic looks or ride quality or modern preformance

Rent a local storage locker or something like that. Buy bike and sell for profit. With that money buy nice bike you wouldn't otherwise. Keep a few bikes ready to sell and then you can keep a collection of bike you want.

Not autist but keep my bike addiction not too weirdos. Keep my house clean of all random bike parts everywhere and manageable

You could look at it between the toy market and car market. When toys become valuable, manufacturers remake them or someone makes replicas, bikes would be easy enough to replicate. Anything with historicall significance will go up naturally.

you will have to get an IGH if you want gears as you have no derailleur hanger. the spacing between your dropouts might also be to narrow for an IGH tho

no. it's a track bike. While technically possible it will require a lot of fuckery and is not worth it.

that's how you'd do it though. A bolt on hanger. You'd also need a lot of other stuff including a new wheel and losing the fixed drivetrain means you need brakes and a rear brake could be impossible so you'd have 1 brake only which is not safe.

I'd restore it as a track bike. Find a local velodrome and go there when it's free and smoke some weed and zone out and ride around in circles. Or drill the fork for a front brake, go out and thrash it around a city for like an hour. Both great exercise and fun. Sell it if you don't dig it after restoring.
