Most of Europe is fine, cars enable people to live in places where public transport is not viable (otherwise they would be cut off from the rest of the world), while urban, suburban areas and bigger towns get public transport.
Cars are an issue in poor countries, where poor ("middle class") people ride them (e.g. US, Thailand), because everything is built around cars.
