What's transit like in your area for nocturnal people? Where I live, it doesn't exist at all. Everything closes early, and day passes and round trip passes are only valid until midnight, rather than being valid 24 hours.
What're the best places to live in, if you're nocturnal?

Considering that I live in a suburban area, it's not awful.
There's a 24/7 bus service that runs every 30 minutes overnight about a 15-minute walk away, but I would never use it at night due to safety concerns.

In my city trains stop around 1am, but most subway lines have night bus service to replace it. Trams go all night but only every 30 minutes.

Taipei is pretty dead past 12. You can't even get to the airport by public transportation if you have an early flight (before 7 am). I sometimes ride the local bikeshare to the private bus depot in town where they have a bus that leaves hourly.

There are a few American cities where trains run into the very wee hours of the night (NYC) but that's quite rare.

There is a night bus service on weekend nights starting at 1 AM. The 15 or so bus lines rendezvous at a central terminal once per hour until regular tram and bus service starts in the morning. Unfortunately, the schedule doesn't line up with regional trains at all, so you either run like a motherfucker or wait 50 minutes before you get home.

Here in Atlanta trains run every 20 minutes from 5 am to 1 am on weekdays and 6 am to 1 am on weekends. Some people say public transit here is scary at night but those people are all west coast transplant garbage.

I'm in Baltimore. The last subway runs at about midnight and the first at 5 am or so. There's a gap in the bus service around 2:30 and 4:00 am. All the fucking criminals have gone to sleep and the only people riding that time are homeless and night shift workers.

I work anywhere from 4-12 to 8-4. I bike 20k each way through a mix of light industrial, heavy industrial, and suburban. I've been startled by Coyotes a few times, but never had any problems with anything. It would suck to get a flat suddenly though. I carry a spare tube so I can patch later.

It's close to perfect in the islands with boat (and a bus service) services roughly every 30 minutes. The connection between with two nocturnal bus services connecting the main island to the denser mainland areas it's also pretty good. Then connection to the mainland suburbs is almost non-existent, there are 3 additional nocturnal bus lines but they only have one trip at 1am, that's also really close to the time main bus services stop operating.
Connection to the other city in the lagoon it's pretty good though.

Here in Melbourne we have hourly trains and half hourly trams and buses running all night on Fridays and weekends. A lot better than the former Nightrider buses which mainly paralleled the train lines anyway.

Chicago was pretty good if you stuck to downtown and the north/northwest sides. The blue and red lines ran 24/7 and there were decent bus options. That said, the tripfag is right for once. Even working third shift long enough beats the shit out of your body. Humans are diurnal animals for a reason. Please sleep at night and be awake for daylight.

I've only used the night trains but it's not too bad in practice. Stations are manned all night with PSOs (a bit like transport police but less actual power) so you don't really have a problem with people causing disruptions when they can get booted off the train at the next station. Generally the trains are on time and kept pretty clean, so it's not a bad way to sober up on your way home after a bit of a night out. Regular PT fares as well so it's a lot cheaper than an uber or something, too.
