Maybe this will change at some point, but until then the assertion that carbon bikes are expensive is true because there is no such thing as a cheap carbon bike like there are cheap non-carbon bikes.

I DID say that $800 carbon bikes don't exist and that if they did it would probably be an indication that it uses low-quality carbon which would not be trustworthy, but that's a completely different argument from saying that all carbon explodes. That's not even to say that quality $800 carbon bikes will never exist in the future as the materials become cheaper, just that if you saw an $800 carbon bike RIGHT NOW you'd be right to be wary of it.
