What does /n/ think of NIMBYism? Was Robert Moses the greatest YIMBY of all time?

How much better would NYC have been if not for recalcitrant luddite NIMBYs successfully blocking important new infrastructure like the cross-manhattan expressway?

Would the crime wave of the 80s have been averted if we had been able to demolish Grand Central as originally intended?

Why did boomers want to keep these antiquated eyesores anyway? Cars are the #1 symbol of American freedom. Does anyone even take trains besides poors and fringies?

I know this is a shitpost but it does end up making a good point. Robert Moses is the quintessential urban planner, but he was racist or something and destroyed Jewish neighborhoods so he's somehow a bad guy on /n/. Deep down inside, every urban planner wants to be Robert Moses and thinks the ends justify the means. Basically just a bunch of sociopaths running around destroying other people's stuff with the force of the state backing them, doing so just to satisfy their own autism.

Freeway revolts were NIMBYism at work. Today NIMBY just means citizens or a community that won't take it up the ass because some politician/bureaucrat wants to ramrod their idea into fruition.

NIMBYs took a legitimate idea -preserving their cities and heritage- and warped it into literal insanity. Preserving mass transit, infrastructure and old buildings in general is good but disallowing tree trimming, upzoning, or mass transit is not.

No, they just want the planning to favor their preferences, same as NIMBYs. No one can even fully agree on definitions for YIMBY vs NIMBY, it's all just "what I like" vs "what I don't like." Pointless labels for useless people. Stop trying to turn every issue into Us vs Them, over-generalized label witch hunt "movements" and start discussing individual issues on a case by case basis. Extremist tribalism never helped anyone.
