>>1424076Part of why probably comes from the fact that Lufthansa needed a cabin for the 747-8I, and it made sense to them to renovate their -400 cabins at the same time for consistency and also for cost savings.
Lufthansa does plan to replace the -400s with 777Xs, but the main problem Lufthansa has is more to do with the fact that with delays, they're going to have to keep -400s going for a bit longer. Then again, Lufthansa likes the idea of super high capacity planes on high demand routes, which is why they're still content with the A380 and even ordered 747-8Is.
We'll eventually see the A350-1000 and 777X replace those kinds of aircraft in general over the next decade or two.
