That is the only way to perfectly clean and grease a chain.
However as it is a little labout intensive I prefer something different that requires:
>1:50 2-stroke mix (pure gasoiline is fine as well)>marmelade/sauce jar>small/medium sized pot>wax>thermometerIt is pretty simple and gets your chains as clean as reasonably possible with little effort:
>remove chain from drivetrain>dump chain and gasoiline into a jar>close the jar>shake the jar for 5 min>remove chain and let it dry (the light oil coating prevents any rust)>melt the wax in a pot and heat it to 105-110 °C>let chain soak in wax for 2 -5 minutes>pull chain out>dry off the outside with a paper towel>let it cool down>clean your drivetrain with the gasoiline mix and a paint-brush>re-mount the chainThat's how I clean my chain and drivetrain.
