As the 737 has been Boings best selling plane and the NG beeing around since the mid '90s even just rolling out a fix for that would get them realy close to bankruptcy, not even talking about getting sued by airlines that have huge fleets of 737 NG series planes.
Wich for the US means that they would be pretty much nonexistant in the airliner market and Airbus would end up as pretty much a monopolist.
