Some people like narrower tires, especialy on smoother roads.
Some people like wider tires, especialy on worse roads, gravel and cobble.
As an example I'm running different tires on different bikes for different reasons:
>roadbike 25x700C GP4000S2 for the speed, that bike exists only to go fast on decent roads.
>MTB27,5x2.6 and 27,5x2.3 Smart Sam for grip and comfort on trails and cobble.
>recumbent with rear suspension 20" 28mm Contact Speed for the low rolling resistance at that odd size and comfort is great anyway due to the suspension.
>folding bike20x1,75 for a reasonable amount of comfort on these small wheels
