Recumbent bicycles a bit less but they too will never become mainstream.
I say that as someone who was once an avid advocate for both types, but after using them for a period of time came to realize why they aren't popular.
They are like communism, great in theory, terrible in practice.
Recumbent bicycles have one use and that is for elderly and the handicapped who can no longer ride a regular bike.
