Definitely a lost art, I really wish modern locomotive designers went back for inspiration for new pieces of motive power. Could you imagine a Modern, EMD E7 Style six axle freight diesel made by GE? Modern motive power look fucking awful, just look at that new Siemens Charger that Amtrak wants to buy. What an ugly machine.

Huffliners are more like knockoff PCCs. TARS couldn’t afford to buy PCCs so they updated the 1920s Peter Witt style car with a sleeker design, aluminum bodies and better gearing and suspension. They didn’t have trolley poles either as they ran off underground conduit.

You know why they don't streamline any more? Because wind tunnel tests prove streamlining is actually worse for a vehicle than just making it flat and angled. Otherwise they'd all do it for the fuel savings, but they don't. The only 'streamlined" power units out there are for high speed trains and none of that is art deco style encrusted with chrome and other shit.

The Buick Blackhawk, a concept car from 2001. It's a great idea, but something just seems off about how it's halfway between a 1940s car and an early-2000s luxury compact. I feel the Holden Efijy handled the blend better, but even then, those two examples are probably the closest we're gonna get.

Yes, it was an early prototype. Clark was the company that made trucks for the PCC. Standee windows, aluminum body and the squared off roof. I think it’s fugly compared to the big windows and curves of the other early PCCs. There was another prototype built for Brooklyn that’s super Art Deco. I’ll try and find a pic.

Bizarrely nobody knows anything about fluid dynamics, so the cult of the blob isn't a guarantee of good aerodynamics.
Tiny drones have better performance with wings using a L-shaped side profile (the smaller surface pointing towards the airflow), vortex generators, boundary layer ingestion, winglets and all sorts of unintuitive ideas can improve it.

Art Deco and Art Nouvou are the best styles for station/airports and stuff. Nothing else comes close.

I can tolerate other styles for locomotives, buses etc. I'm not a huge fan of streamline moderne either
