>>1456678>cup&conebig yikes aside from lateral loads and not needing a spacer
only problem with cartridge bearings is that people think they need no maintenance or lucubration
6 to 8 speed the chain is the same for MTB and really old bikes
but then road freds and 1x bros had to mess everything up
35x68 mm bb sucks
they should have gone strait to BMX BB when attempting to replace it
but they beat about the bush with all sorts of whimpy BB
that said hollow tech is not a bad hack
>freewheel+
when the ratchet fails you just thread it off and throw a new one on ez
UG much more common and it takes longer to wear out
-
big dish so the rest of the wheel has to be gimped around this
bent axle
fragile ratchet and pawl (very vulnerable to grime and rust)
99% riveted 1% cassette
most are HG anyway
>free hub+
less dish
stronger and lighter axle
ratchet is much stronger hardly ever stops working
100% cassette, widely adopted so you can choose what ever gears you like
8 speed mtb free hub same width as 7 speed freewheel
-
ratchet is harder to fix when it breaks
cassette bite everywhere
lock ring spline per brand
spacers to keep track of
HG only works between so many teeth combinations
