If he was properly armed/trained, he had a chance when the robber was reaching over the saddle.
Take his weapon, or unholster his own, then use the body as a shield/carcass while shooting twice towards the other assailants.

I had my bike stolen at gunpoint 2 years ago in Chicago when I was cycling at 11pm. The cunts also took my phone and wallet (with no cash) so I was stranded for hours until I was able to get somebody to contact the police for me.

All the pigs did was give me a lift home after 10 minutes of questions at the station
