I work aboard a ship for five weeks at a time. A lot of guys that I work with will be seasick for a day or two the first time we hit rough weather in a swing but they get over it. I suspect that a lot of people who get seasick would be in a similar situation, if they tough it out for a few days they'll potentially get over it.
Some people are just shit out of luck though.
