>>1469519juan, actually.
i'm not sure what are you talking about, i've never talked about ny or even usa.
i was not deffending brazilian irmao, nor state owned companies. just making an extremely short and faulty history of how the combination of corrupt state and private owned companies ruined the railway transport in argentina, even the one that was efficient but designed as a mean of extraction of commodities.
here you can see how the rail network in argentina was designed to converge in buenos aires, instead of making an interconnected nation. that was designed by british interests, but continued by local govts. with no real vision of a developed country.
also you can see how the network almost disappear after the 90's privatizations, favoring trucking and highway construction companies, which i think is stupid, and in more recent years low cost airlines (a complete failure and a scheme to steal from the govt, with the consent from the govt).
during the last 20 years or so there has been some efforts to revive the network, but infrastructure is so old that even having new trains they couldn't go fast in the old rails, so what used to be a 5 hrs trip in the 70's is now a 12/16hrs trip. embarrasing.
and yes, juan is going to die in a super debted country, even after living for a short while in holland and usa, i've chosen to die here. the love for the land, i guess, or just sadomasochism.
but ironically enough, many state runed schools are excellent (my kids go to one of them) and state runed unis are flourishing and still some of the best in Latam, specially in certain areas.
