New Haven is incredibly underrated. They had such a dense rail network for the area they covered, so like they OWNED New England basically. They had an electric corridor, which for American Railroads is always a plus. For me, more than any other railroad, even the NYC and PRR, New Haven is THE quintessential northeast commuter railroad. When I think of a dark cloudy 50s evening in New York, as the evening trains are leaving, bringing guys in suits to their suburban houses, the New Haven is the railroad I think of.
Also their McGinnis paint scheme is PROBABLY the best paint scheme ever. GN BSB is a close contender.
>>1496153Oh I know lmao, I was mainly trying to focus on their later stuff, but their early years are definitely just as interesting!
The fact D&RGW had like ONE diesel engine for their entire NG empire is so cool imo. Like that insistence on running everything with steam powered, even deep into the 60s, is unlike anywhere else in the US. I wish I could go back to like Alamosa during that time, would have been so cool to see the early diesels still running beside 60 year old steam engines on a daily basis.
Ah yes, the true wild west... when companies solved their troubles with guns.
I think this summer when things start to clear up, I wanna drive up to either the remains of Rollins Pass or Tennessee Pass and try to document whats left. Just to see some original Rio Grande grades for myself.
>>1496193no lmao
