hate to be a downer /n/ but i think we need to enjoy the streets as they are while this lasts. and the air quality.
data now coming out of china as it opens back up, as our president would say, shows mode-shift to personal cars, from transit and two-wheeled vehicles
now of course would be a great opportunity to open lo-traffic streets (temporarily, at first) to peds, joggers, bikes, so on, and add protected bike lanes and MUPs to arterials. and then just leave them thus after. (of course we know that traffic actually just disappears due to induced demand, see 14th street, market street, so on :-)
instead we will do nothing, crowding what open space our cities have -- and once the virus ends, cars will come roaring back.
