Personally I have no idea why people think self-driving cars will solve any problems related to cars. They still carry every issue a car does.
And nobody knows when the technology will be ready for deployment.

The self-driving investment could help everyone. And when I say everyone, I mean nearly eight billion people. $5B to a single transit agency does what? In the US, that doesn't even pay for 23 miles of heavy transit near the nation's capital which may only move hundreds of thousands per year.

You can always spend more money and get more computing power. The problem is we don't have software that can safely run a large % of cars on the road at once.
Self-driving cars get bullied and forced to do stupid shit by human drivers.
They also face problems like

Answers to these questions have to be programmed into the car. And there's no easy answer.
All of that's beside the problem of how to make self-driving cars interact with each other.

what's the point. and no electric moped is going to have the capacity to drive a tuktuk. might as well have a custom-designed pod which has a flat floorplate which can take enough battery capacity to make the thing worthwhile, while also keeping it stable and space-efficient.

I'd rather take a Johnny Cab, than have to deal with taxi drivers, who are often weirdos. In a city, I think an army of Johnny Cabs would work better than pretty much any other form of transport, apart from bikes. Cars you have to park. Buses and trains you have to wait for, and walk to a stop.
