This one was built to try and open up some productive farming country for veterans after WW1, the land and terrain proved to be economically unfeasible. Its called the bridge to nowhere and to get to it you need to have a jet boat.

It's part of some abandoned forest railway in Japan. I presume they weren't allowed to let the reservoir get that high when it was in operation, but I don't know

It's known for its steep approaches, but it was built when highway standards barely existed. A structure like it wouldn't be built as steep today as evidenced by the newer span in your pic.

All of that is a marsh and you have to treat it like you're building over water anyway.

Also, it's possible that since that's a marsh, they dug that canal out to build the bridge since they can float equipment and material to the site on a barge.
