>>1478760To elaborate, unit trains carry one commodity to one destination and generally return as a completely empty set to be reloaded. Many unit trains are 'cycle trains,' i.e. they have a certain number of days or hours to complete one load/unload/return cycle. Most but not all unit trains are cycle trains. Coal, rock, sand, and ore are often moved in unit trains. Grain trains usually are as well. These are typically the heaviest trains.
+ Manifest trains are also called merchandise trains or 'junk trains' by crews because they're a mixture of all types of cars and goods going to/from many different destinations. Most of these trains are cut and filled in blocks of cars along the way.
+ Intermodal can mean double stacks or piggyback (trailers). This also refers to roadrailers, but those have fallen out of favor and I don't know if anyone runs those anymore.
+ Bare table trains are entire trains of empty intermodal equipment such as well cars, spine cars, and flat cars for containers and trailers
+ Vehicle trains are pretty self explanatory. Moving autoracks.
+ Work trains can be a variety of equipment from private operators like Herzog (as in
>>1478759) or the railroad's own.
+ Officer specials are 'passenger trains' of the railroad's own equipment, nearly always for executives only.
+ Light engine moves aren't common but they're literally just locomotives with no cars.
