Come on, just look at them! Don't tell me you wouldn't ride one!
Airship technology has improved dramatically over the decades, just look at the Dragon Dream! That thing can lift off from ANYWHERE and hold the cargo of 10 trucks!
I refuse to believe that airships don't have a future!

The upper surface could be used to heat up the gases inside, I didn't think this through but it works with shitty light air balloons.

My idea was using Hydrogen or Helium too, try to decrease the weight of the balloon somehow. The anti-carbon cult references are really cringe, though.

Then that's a horrible idea! The best use I can see coming out of airships is using them to replace trucks, and obviously, they would need to work at night time in order for that idea to work.

They would need to have adapt to night or cloudy days too. Like only releasing hydrogen if the pressure gets too high (so the density lowers and the lift increases).
It was common to release it because the rest of the airship gets lighter as you spend fuel and it's a way to compensate.
You need a blowout valve for safety anyway (and many other accessories like a ballistic parachute).
The passenger cabin could be even lighter by using fabric like this plane did.

I saw a few hours ago in some normie science magazine that newer airships map the air streams and ride over them like a sail ship, so the cost of moving cargo around is much lower than current alternatives.

They're gorgeous but the money doesn't lie. It's the infrastructure needs that kill them, that and vulnerability to weather. You can load your 10 trucks worth of cargo into 10 actual trucks from *almost* anywhere for much cheaper even if you have to cut a road just to do it. Re: I'm an off road trucker in northern Alberta.

I feel your feels, I wish I could witness the age of airships too.

That is precisely what I've been thinking. I could easily imagine youtubers and twitch e-thots posting on twitter about how they're on the "new famous air hotel" or something. I think airships have a better shot at a future as being a vacation attraction for rich kids. It's certainly more realistic than trying to find ways to make airships "more efficient" at doing something airplanes already do.

I don't know how flexible the turbofans are, but instead of achieving absurdly high speeds like the airplanes in those jet stream speed records, they could slow down back to typical airliner speeds and save fuel.

We have those too, sort of, but they can't go fast or on pavement. When they get stuck, they get stuck bad. They also need a heavy highway hauler just to bring them in. To move ten trucks or more worth of drill rig to some random spot on a northern Alberta map, you wait for winter freeze-up and bring one of these in. It can pretty much pick a compass bearing and head off through the muskeg leaving a road behind it. Then bring in water trucks to flood the trail and make an ice road, and you've got a pavement-like surface that can handle heavy traffic for a few months.

Not quite as glamorous as the airship but it gets the job done.
