A special MU system was designed for the Little Joes back in the 1950s, the rear cab of each Joe housed the equipment for this that's why one cab end of every Joe is blacked out. The mechanism was called a Wylie throttle (pic related).

This was a Brazilian railroad from the Government of the State of São Paulo. Such a flag is white with black stripes (representing white people and black people) and a red one at the top (representing indigenous people). Therefore, the painting on the locomotives of this railway was inspired by the flag. Its name was Ferrovia Paulista S. A. and existed between 1971 and 1998, when it was absorbed by the Brazilian federal government that extinguished the name.

They do look very similar, but that is a 2-C+C-2, whereas a Little Joe has a 2-D+D-2 arrangement.

They are.
The forces are transmitted between the bogies, not through the frame supporting the body.

The "+" symbol indicates that the locomotive is articulated, like the one in the photo: double articulated locomotive, AAR notation: B + B + B, Ansaldo (Italy) 1960. It operated in Yugoslavia.

An articulated locomotive is very rare. The official "Brazilian" manual was done wrong. For these and other reasons, they were unable to obtain spare parts and that is why, at the moment, Brazil does not have a train.

I'm saying the articulation is in the linked bogie frames.
The body on top is in one piece, but the actual frames where the forces are transmitted are in two pieces joined together.
Your locomotive is also articulated as it has frames in two parts. It's just more obvious as the frames are integral to the body, rather than the body sitting on the frames.

Though my guess is the rake in your pic isn't separate trains coupled together and that it isn't meant to be disassembled into two trains around the helpers.

I remember that poll, sadly the vote was (intentionally) split between the Little Joe and MILW boxcabs so even though those two locomotives had a combined plurality the Boomer Boy won. The vote was rigged in that sense so they could release a UP loco in time for the transcontinental railroad anniversary.
