>>1505260Not the guy replying to you, but a few things from someone also interested in becoming a military pilot, and is done with college.
)Last I checked, the AF weighs a PPL much more heavily for pilot selection than the Navy does. Something to consider if flying is your ultimate goal. Same thing with the engineering major. As far as I know, the Navy does not give a FUCK about your major, the GPA is much more important. In the past I heard that the AF cared quite a bit about having a STEM degree, but recent information has led me to believe that they don't really care anymore either, although it might be slightly beneficial.
)If you're going to commit to ROTC, make sure you bust your ass. Where you go after school is determined by an order of merit list, which is adjusted to the needs of the Navy/AF. I've heard stories of entire graduating classes getting no aviation slots just because it was just a bad time for SNA/UPT hopefuls.
)If you apply for Navy/AF OTS/OCS, the process is more competitive but you get to pick what you do before you sign any sort of contract. Didn't make the cut for aviation? Don't have to worry about being locked into 4 years of something you don't want to do.
)Something I'm considering is applying to fly through the Air National Guard. There are lots of pros and cons to this, but the main one for me is that you apply through an individual squadron (Think of it like rushing a frat, that's what I've heard it's like), and if they take you in, you're guaranteed to fly the airframe that they fly, so long as you complete training. Accepted to an ANG squadron that flies F-15Cs? Well now you know what you're going to be doing, and don't have to worry about competing with other students in flight school.
