Swiss MO-05 Military Bicycle

No.1485230 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
>650b x 38mm tires
>Bike weighs 50 lbs
>50t chainring and 20t cog, 65 gear inches

>Soldiers were expected to be able to do 75 miles a day with a 75 lb pack load

I'm calling bullshit. Maybe if the absolute entirety of the 75 miles was downhill. My single speed is in 65.9 gear inches. I can tackle a quarter mile 10.5% grade but I'm completely exhausted by the top and my bike is 20lbs and I carry very little gear.

Would the best cyclist on Earth be able to get up a long 10% grade on a 50lb bike with a 75 lb pack load in 65 gear inches? Or can we assume that the Swiss Army rode their bicycles on the flats and downhills only and walked the bikes up every single incline?
