I did 130 km riding around another city yesterday. A respectable 16 minutes of non-moving time in a ride with 6.5 hours on the go. Between this and my last ride there I have 75% of the Wandrer eligible roads complete. Since I was doing a lot of north / south roads I ended up encountering a lot more stop signs than the last ride.

With the paid version of Wandrer you can download a map that shows eligible roads you haven't ridden, so it saves you from riding stuff that doesn't count if you are strictly trying to increase your completion %.

Saw some deer chilling in town, they weren't the least bit concerned as I rode by. I'll have to make one more trip down there to finish up the eligible roads, then spin around on their MUPs for a while which are mapped as footways on OSM so they don't count.

Rode through Bedford-Stuyvesant yesterday. I’m a NYC transplant and I thought it’d be a rough neighborhood but it was actually really nice. Rode all the way through it and into Clinton Hill.

I'm gradually increasing the amount of time I can ride my fatbike without worrying about running out of energy by about 2.5 minutes a day.
I'm a fat guy on a fat bike, could only go 15 minute with half of it coasting anyways. Without trying too hard and focusing on having a good time, I'm up to 30 minutes. Can feel the body making changes.

Went out twice yesterday, totalling about 25 miles, I've only been cycling for two weeks so I don't feel too bad about it.

I think positioning is all good, possibly it's tilted upwards too much. It's a soft saddle and I'm a hefty beast so I'm kind of assuming I sink into it and put pressure where it shouldn't be.

yea, you're probably just smushing into it too much as you say. nose up a little generally keeps you from sliding too far forward, but it depends on the saddle. angle it however you need to make the back part parallel to the ground.

Today I got on my fatbike and comlpeted lap around the neighborhood and I wasn't even all that out of breath or breathing hard. I was about to start a second lap when my friend pulled into my driveway. Feeling cocky, I said "hey go drive to your house I wanna see if I can keep up" since he lived just around the corner.
Queue myself unexpectedly hitting 20mph on a flat in fucking 12th gear barely spinning it.
I reach my destination panting, we go inside and chill and I realize I've absolutely overexerted myself and I spend 20 minutes trying to fight passing out and gasping for air.

My area is incredibly hilly so long, sustainable rides are impossible at my fitness level unless you walk up the hills.
I just gotta keep going and keep riding.
Like I'm 230lbs fatass sitting in front of computer for 10+ years and just got my bike last week. There are no wrong choices except not riding.

Same here. I’m not fat but my legs are weak. However I’m riding a citi bike everyday (heavy as fuck) and it’s making my legs stronger.
As much as I want to go ride again today (and I probably will) I need to take a rest day to let my quads recover.

I went on my second trail ride today. I paid attention to the signs for beginner courses. I need to look at my seat because halfway through my seat started twisting around. I probably put too much grease near the joints. I rode standing up most of the way.
Jesus I can only make one lap and I spent most of the uphill walking the bike up.
I'm so pumped for my battery to come in for my motor. I'll just be able to keep going and not have such short rides and then run out of energy.
Right now I'm just learning bike handling basics and repair, and getting my overall stamina up.

I did my first serious road ride today. I commute often and sometimes go for a ride around town, but its never more than 30 km. I didn't plan the path too much and ended with 73 km (930 m elevation). After 35 km mostly uphill I got exhausted and barely could climb anymore. But it was alright until I stoped for few minutes like 15 km from home. After that my thighs hurt so much I almost cried. I thought I was in better shape than this, third year of university is paying its price

I noticed that there is a much brighter variable dc voltage version of the edelux dynamo light coming out in July. 170 lux vs 100. I'm tempted to get one to try out on my bike that doesn't have a dynamo. I reckon one of my 6 cell battery packs will run it for 10 hours.

I'd really like to see a switchable high beam added to that light. The way the light is focused low and narrow, you can't see pedestrians on the MUP in the dark (they are illuminated from the knees down) or anything approaching from the side at intersections. If I'm going to be riding MUPs in the dark with my dynamo bike I bring my helmet light to turn on as needed.

I completed two laps in that neighborhood today and didn't feel crazy tired.
Not only that, but the neighborhood has a sharp turn to the right that's on a downhill.
When I first started that on my fatbike, I nearly ran off the left side of the rode because I wasn't turning correctly.
I got better at it yesterday, but still swerved into the left lane.
Today I went full MOTO CROSSU and got low and leaned the bike after a heavy countersteer.
I had so much fucking control I felt fucking RAD. Tried to get my friend to record it but the fucker's phone was off and he wasn't answering the door.
SOON.
It feels fucking sick. I still "bounce" as I balance the bike but I figure I'll smooth that out in time.
God fatbike are so fucking cool I am so glad I got it.

I have done a ride mostly in Zone 3 today, that should be fairly close to my FTP right ? I wonder how good the Strava power estimate is for that. I mean I was in the correct heart rate zone for my 10-20min efforts to be close enough to FTP I would assume. But without a powermeter I can only trust Strava here...

I got my friend to record me today. I've gotten better! This feels so much sicker than it looks it's ridiculous. However I could turn sharper if I wanted to, I feel it. I can feel my stamina increasing which is also great.
Thursday I gets my nice seatpost in and before long my nice new handlebar so I'll put new grip and pedals on.
Any time I'm not pedaling up a hill is a good time on this thing.

It set me up for the lean into the turn. It helped the most when taking the turn smoothly and with confidence. I'm going to be getting some agility cones so I can practice taking much sharper turns which will help on fast trail rides.
However yes it's slower than it felt but that's the magic of fat tires. It just makes everything feel awesome. The road noise they make is radical.

Also swerving that bike is really fun in itself.
God everything about the bike is so fun.
It gives me a shit-eating grin when I talk about it.
It's ridiculous. I'll spend 20 minutes in my front yard just running over grass, weeds, fallen branches and just making everything go cronch and those wheels just magnify the sound with their acoustics.

I thought the windy season was over, but we are back to 60-70 km/h winds again. I cut a ride very short last night because even with the diminished evening wind my knees weren't happy from all the kneeling I did fixing a sprinkler line yesterday.

My hair was getting a bit tall for the warm weather so I gave myself a haircut this morning. Turned out decent enough, I might keep doing it myself.

I took another lap today but decided to use strava to see how slow I was going.
I took that downhill curve at 30mph.

I went for a ride in another city and saw a bunch of gophers. I don't see many of them locally as my city has done an effective job poisoning them. They leave huge holes everywhere causing injuries to people using sports fields.

Yesterday had the longest ride in a while.

Went with a friend to a fishing/surfing town and back to eat pizza. Total of 180km and 2100m of climbing in 6h40min moving time. Horrible headwind going out felt like a constant climb but coming back it was pushing us along sometimes at 50km/h on the flat.

Today decided to go for something easier on the legs to recover and took my MTB out for pasture.

Quick loop around local trails and was pleasantly surprised with how every route was marked and maintained. Did 30km with 500m of climbing in 1h50min. Was so slow up some slopes that the Garmin would auto-pause thinking I was stopped.

I think its time for a new cycling computer. The second battery in my Edge 800 is getting pretty lackluster run time and the screen has always been hard to read in shade.

I use the map display a lot so I think the Edge 530, even though it does everything I need, would annoy me with its physical buttons. 2 buttons control pan and zoom, and you have to press a 3rd button to switch between zoom, horizontal pan, and vertical pan.

If Garmin made a proper remote the 530 could be perfect. Their remote has 3 buttons of which only one can be customized. A remote with a mini analog stick and few programmable buttons would let you zoom and pan easily.

So I'll likely go with the 830 and keep the 800 around for winter riding with its glove friendly pressure touch display.

Every site I checked was charging exactly MSRP for the 830, I guess its a niche enough product with smallish volumes that companies aren't out to undercut each other. Garmin's profit margin on these things must be huge. The components are not exactly cutting edge (screen resolution is around 200x300).

Got my battery in.
Cannot stop riding it.
take a 45 minute ride for lunch, top it off at work, come home, ride 4 hours after I clock out until 9:30 PM. Can't wait for the weekend where I get to try to run the battery down. Ride around town. Ride off into the grass. Ride in my yard. Ride to my friend's. Just ride anywhere I want, those tires and drivetrain take me there. Gets 80 miles per charge and still has between 15 and 20% juice left before it's time to go home.
So glad I got the bbshd. I throw it into 11th or 12th gear and pedal along with it to hit 35-40mph in bursts until I run out of energy. Then it's back down to 25-30. Need to get my stamina up so I can stay with traffic no problem for the little I do it. Need to get my programming cable in because it gives you way too much juice on pedal assist 1.

Tried out the "adventure" bit of my adventure bike properly for the first time, mixing in a 5km or so stretch into my 20km chill ride on a few bits of riverside single track, its kind of garbage at going off road but in a fun way, I've rode a road bike across a field before and it was massively uncomfortable, the tracks were much rougher and while it was bouncy and tiring and I almost lost balance and tipped over at one point I wasn't sore afterwards, and nothing broke so I guess it was successful

I think with a bit more practice this might be about as good as a rigid 90's mtb off road, just have to get used to riding ruts on drops

Riding in the evening after a hot day is really pleasant. The only downside being the low sun causing tons of glare.

The stop and go riding I've been doing in town lately is a bit harder on the RD cable. 5000 km on it and its got its first broken strand poking my finger. I usually get closer to 6000 km on a cable.

Went for a 5 am ride this morning to avoid the never ending wind. The wind is supposed to drop this evening so I might go for a second ride.

The Edge 820 I ordered arrived today and holy shit is the map rendering slow. For something 2 generations beyond my 800 my expectation is that panning would be seamless. When panning the area you are panning into is blank, then it takes 1 - 2 seconds to redraw the basemap and overlays. My 800 can do it in maybe 1/4 of a second.

With panning that slow doing a pan that requires multiple swipes to get to what you want to see would take far too much time and end up being a downright dangerous distraction.

Definitely sending it back. A shame because the image quality is a hell of a lot better than the 800 despite the screen being smaller.

Wind eased up a bit tonight so I went out for 3 hours. Its looking like it will be windy all this week, so I'll likely be riding early or late to avoid the worst of it. It's slow, but not a problem so long as you're getting your heart rate up by pushing yourself. 30m-1h is the perfect amount of time for a solid cycling workout. But don't mess it up by eating more, which I'm guessing is what you're doing. Ignore what the app says about calories burned (it's a rough guesstimate at best, more likely you burned 200-300) and stick to a normal healthy diet. Don't even log the workout in your nutrition tracker.

Garmin's own map is pretty meh, but I'll be using my custom OSM map anyway. They've been making their own OSM maps for years and still can't be bothered to make alleys look different from roads or paths / unpaved paths look different.

I'd like to have more control over the data screen layouts. There is no option to have one giant item at the top with smaller boxes below like on my 800. Closest is 2 small boxes at the top, then a fairly big box and more smaller boxes.

Another weird thing about the map that was also on the 820, is that if you accidentally touch the map and drop a push pin there is no way to get rid of it without resetting the map to the current location.

So I went on a ride with my friend who has a dualsport motorcycle. He took me down a long highway that had some big hills. With my shit in highest gear, me pedaling hard as I can, and throttling it hard as I can, going down the big hill, tucked down real low for aero, I hit at least 45MPH twice because he was following me so I might have been a little faster.
But it sure didn't feel that fast, the fatbike was so stable. I even had my panniers with about 10 lbs of stuff in them. Was also a hell of a workout pedaling at that speed even with the motor helping.
I must gain more fitness so I can gain more speed and range though. I seek a longer adventure and more endorphins.
It's a blast man. It begs to play in the dirt and in the grass. I splash through every puddle of mud I see. I'ma find some nice places to take it for sure!

Rode past a walmart during my ride tonight and there were a bunch of people outside. I was confused at first because the distancing stuff was supposed to be eased. Then I saw there were a bunch of employees standing around too, so I figured the store got evacuated for some reason. When I checked the local twitter it turns out someone emptied a can of pepper spray near the checkout for lulz.

Got home just as it was getting dark. I had my ancient Planet Bike 2W Blaze be-seen light which barely illuminates the ground at all. The last stretch I was cruising all pretty fast with a tailwind and rabbits kept jumping out in front of me.

I slept over at a friend's house but woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep. So I ended up riding home at 4am, about 10 miles. Nice crisp cool air, didn't see a single car. Patted a deer on the head not far from where I took this, it was neat. Everything feels more special in the early morning I think.

Also I am new here and to cycling so hello! I've been getting faster and better endurance with every ride, feeling great progress and motivation.

Will do, planning on a chill evening cruise in a few minutes here. I used to work my legs really hard in HS for football and wrestling, so I'm making mad CNS connections every time I go out and reclaiming my gainz. Can't wait to really get fit and start hauling ass. I smoke the boomer cruisers but the Lycra freds still leave me in the dust.

Ok so all the mtb talk has had me intrigued so I decided to head down to the local walking trails to see how hybrid my "hybrid" really is. All in all, it was really fun cruising down the dirt/grass trails and it handled it pretty well until I got the the part in pic related. Didn't think my tires could handle it and turned back. At that point, I was really wishing I had a real mtb so I could have blasted through it.

My area is so flat, that I don't know if it's worth it to go out and buy one. But I'm gonna keep my eyes on Craigslist for a super deal just so I can have something for rides like this.

I believe so. I guess I just have to be a little more brave. Mostly I go slow because the bike still feels so delicate to me. I need to get in the mindset of maintenance so at least I know that everything is tight after I shake the shit out of it. I've just been riding it since I bought it. Windy yet again, 5 days in a row using my mtb to ride around in the city. I was tracking down some unridden wandrer roads that popped up after the map refresh. Several of them were inaccessible / didn't exist. The biggest chunk is in an area that is closed off until mid-July (and shouldn't be included with eligible roads anyway). I've got those updated on OSM and they'll get filtered out whenever the next update happens.

I found a handy use for the Garmin activity profiles on newer units. You can customize which maps are displayed for each profile, so I have a profile setup that disables all my custom map overlays. Its a lot easier to change profiles on the fly rather than navigating through the menus to disable individual maps.

120 km today to the closest beach town. Took gravel roads when I could, totalling about 50k of the ride. 38c G-One Speeds at 60psi with tubes were not confidence inspiring in loose gravel but rolled okay on pavement. Overall not super impressed with them, will try 40 psi on a full gravel route soon. All the restaurants were closed, and there were no take out options either so I fueled the ride home with candy bars.

For about half the ride I kept looking at the sky and thinking it looked like rain despite the forecast not calling for rain until late afternoon. I managed to get home well before the downpour. Its been too damn dry this spring, so I can't complain about rain this week. We never get prolonged rain, so there is usually a big enough gap to go for a ride anyway.

Update: Knee is fucked. Idk what I did wrong but riding is off the table, going up stairs has even been a challenge. Luckily I can still walk properly and go to work. I met my brother and we rode easy 60 km to see our old uncle and eat some bbq with him. When heading back home I went solo and since it was night and no wind or traffic anywhere I tried riding pretty fast while experimenting with "virtual aero bar position". I rode 33 km just under one hour on my steel bike with 650B gravel tires. I was even able maintain 40 km/h for one 2 km straight. Maybe not the safest thing to do that with only elbows contacting top of the handlebar but that's fastest I've ever ridden.

So yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm buying some clip on aero bars. I really like that riding position.

Been riding about 15 miles a day on the fat ebike since I got it converted. On road, offroad, it's a blast to ride. I've ridden it through grass up to my tits, through mud, puddles. Got it up to 45mph down a stupid steep hill. Parked it for the first time in public, used a u-lock and a cable lock and was in and out in 7 minutes. Bike unstolen.
The looks you get when your fat ass is blasting through town at 30mph on a fatbike are great. Every now and then I'll be at a stop light and someone will roll down their window and tell me sweet bike. Most of the time they're just commenting on my tires and panniers to be honest though.
Saw the bike group in my little town ride by. I was in my wife beater and cargo pants on my fatbike while they rode past on road bikes and lycra. Thought about joining them but passed as they probably were on some training thing since they were all gussied up.
Rode past a cop, saw him glance my way. Didn't pull me over, unsure what they think. But Louisiana hopes you die on a bike, they don't even require helmets by law.
Biking is very fun, I'm glad I bought it. I get quad/calve workouts as I burst for top speed rather than long-term stamina. I ride during lunch, after work, and then have been doing night rides because that's comfy af. I'm on an endorphin high all day basically. I use healthy pedal assist until I want to go 30mph then I usually do that until I get tired. I throttle up hills though fuuuuuuck that.

Don't listen to the troll. Knees won't get permanently damaged for riding a while with wrong settings. They're just irritated because they got some strange load. Ten years ago I rode way too many miles with my single speed during a year or two and got really painful knees. Knees got X-rayed and there was nothing wrong. I ditched the SS and started to pay attention on my pedaling technique. Now the knees are fine. They may hurt a little after some long ride but it goes away. What one should do with sensitive knees is to go to gym and slowly strengthen leg muscles. Not just squatting but all sorts of moves that make the knee support better. That's what my PT said but I've actually never bothered to do.

But yeah go see a doctor first.

It looks like local government is becoming fond of bidirectional bike lanes. I really would prefer they do nothing if that is what we can expect of them. All they end up doing is taking up so much space on the road it is hard not to use them. One direction has you riding 1 foot from the curb in a pile of sand.

came off my bike for the first time since I was like 10 today. taking a corner I do 8 times a week; everything was wrong, bad line to fast and over confident. Ate shit, bit of road rash up the left side of my body and nice imprint of my keys on my thigh. hit hard enough to knock the chain off and slightly bend the rear brake disc and wheel.

First clipless tip over in years today. Dumbass bulldog on the loose came running over then stopped in front of me, then got in front of me again by which time I was at a complete stop and falling toward the foot that was still clipped in. Cut today's ride short due to diarrhea. When I felt it coming on I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to make it back, so I headed to the edge of the city and found some trees. About half a km down the road from the first pit stop I had to go again, and luckily another dense clump of evergreens. Having exhausted my paper towel supply I decided to not risk riding any longer than I had to. It might have been caused by a big bowl of ice cream I ate before the ride.
