What does /n/ think of mixte frames? Why aren't they more common?

is it really?
i have a mixte and i generally swing my leg over like a regular frame.
like sure you can still shoop your leg through the middle bit but it's really only marginally easier
it's still not really a 'step through' or demonstratively easier to step through it.
think about it. Your foot doesn't have to clear the saddle when you swing your leg around it. Only your thigh does
and where is your thigh when you're stepping through a mixte? is it kind of higher or lower than the saddle? It's marginal.

It's really more about the whole billowing skirt thing or top tube balls/cooch paranoia which well i wish women still rode bicycles in skirts but i don't really see it.

and sure they look kinda cool but yeah i like em. That's my final position. I like em.

People who have stuff on a rack, like a child seat or groceries, simply can't swing their leg over the rear. They're forced to mount over the top tube. I've learnt that the hard way. I can do it, but I'm not sure all other people could, and a mixte would make it much easier either way while still providing lower weight and better rigidity than a step through.

A lot of people think they're "womens bikes". Most of the craigslists adds I see call them that and don't put the correct name anywhere. (Mixte literally means mixed gender).

Why the fuck does /n/ make such a big deal about getting on a fucking bike? You have to get your leg to the other side of the bike anyway, why don't you just swing your fucking leg over the saddle like any fucking normal person?

There's no reason a mixte should have different proportions than other bikes. But you may be right that it could different fashions in geometry from different eras.

They're common around the northeast US area because they're more of a french-branded thing, and Peugeot had a significant bike-boom market presence there in the 70s-80s. There's some that were made by other brands like bianchi and panasonic that show up but they're rarer IME.

For the most part they were also womens' bikes so finding one above 52cm is even harder

while not a true mixte (top tube that runs from the headtube to the rear axle) my ex had a parallel double top tube bike. It was heavy as hell but had an integrated rear rack and a cool drink holder behind the top tube. Truthfully no reason to run double top tube when single top tube is simpler and lighter. The main issue was the top tube bridges breaking on which my ex's bike had broken top tube bridges
