Also drop bars don't "encourage" you to change hand positions, you spend almost all of the time on the hoods, the drops and tops are there for specific moments
And you can have your drop bars at the same height as flat bars, in fact plenty of people do that.
The biggest benefit of drop bars is the hoods, they give you a more natural wrist position that is more comfortable on long rides. You should at least get bar-end horns for your flat bars, I'm pretty sure you'll like them.
Remember, a road bike is not necessarily a "race bike".
