Has there ever been a bicycle frame you could build up at home? Like a kit bike?

Professional frames are either welded together or brazed together. But couldn't you also build a frame that was screwed together with threaded pipe or bolted together or something like that?

It would be really heavy, but it would be fun as hell putting together your own frame. Seems like it would be cheap too.
