>>1504473Like any other material, carbon fiber has advantages as well as disadvantages.
To list a few advantages:
>lightweight >stiff>lay-up patterns can vary to change properties in different directionsBut it also has disadvantages:
>low impact resistance >sudden mode of failiureMeanwhile CroMoly steel frames aren't exactly heavy eitber, but have significantly higher impact resistance and a safer, more gradual mode of failiure.
CroMoly dents, but doesn't form hairline cracks and sufdenly shatters.
>but wich is best.Depends on the use case, for the absolute lightes possible bike carbon may be the best.
For a robust touring or commuting bike CroMoly steel offers some advantages over carbon fiber.
And then there are several different aluminium alloys, titanium, magnesium, magnesium-lithium alloys and whatever other exotic alloys people came up with.
They all have advantages and disadvantages none realy is the best in everything.
