>>1506744Why not attach bricks to your legs when running? You could use the same logic as "you can easily improve your fitness and technique".
Fixies are laughably impractical - everything a fixie can do, a solid road-bike can exceed at several times over. However what isn't funny is the stupid risks fixies encourage riders to take which tarnishing the image of responsible bike users.
Bike messengers love to point out the benefits despite failing to realise it applies to 0.0001 % of all fixie riders. I hate bike messenger culture, they encourage reckless behavior to noobs and contribute to a shitty traffic environment.
I used to be a part of the fixie cult, and the 3 things I kept hearing when any fixie rider is challenged is:
>It's cheaper/simpler to maintainBecause greasing a chain and replacing a part every other year isn't? What about constantly replacing tires because of all those "sick" skids you make?
Because you are exerting so much unnecessary force on the drivetrain, you have to replace that more often anyway. Stupid.
>It's fun/zen/pureI get there is less to think about when you ride what essentially is a glorified toy, but on a serious level this is completely subjective and bullshit, especially when cycling a fixed hub through traffic and with no brakes, death is right around the corner. Very zen and relaxing.
>It's a good workout. And normal cycling isn't? Instead of mashing up hills like a moron, you can conserve your energy and cycle further, see more and actually enjoy the ride instead of worrying about your knees exploding at 35.
Fixies look cool I'll admit and cruising with friends is also enjoyable - but thats what it's limited to, a novelty, a step up from a skateboard.
Adding drop handlebars and aero wheels does absolutely fuck all in terms of performance in traffic besides making you look like a tool. That shit belongs in a velodrome.
