Why can't we expand our transportation options?
Traffic would be better if people drove smaller vehicles.

Because the car pool has become an arms race, people don't want a small car because they're surrounded by huge trucks and feel unsafe, so they buy an even bigger truck, adding to the vicious cycle.
Of course, this is not a problem in first world countries.

Would OP vehicle be street legal in America? My town has a bunch of highways around it (the kind with slow speeds and stoplights and neon signs on the side), but idk if you could take such a vehicle on it.

I see old people riding through the 'burbs on golf carts though.

I only have a car to transport my dog around. I would love the option to get a sidecar for my 125cc honda, but in australia, sidecars are purely for moneyed boomers and hipsters. The sidecar by itself starts at $4000, so a whole setup would cost about $8000+ by the time it's on the road - hence I just bought a secondhand small car instead.

In phillipines, thailand etc, you ride your brand new 125 down the street to the sidecar shop, and they make a custom rig to your specs for about $200.

But everything is futile if the traffic itself continues to be shit, most of it being caused by excessive economic centralization, shitty zoning laws, terrible public transportation, reduced use of remote work, lack of intelligent traffic control systems (they can also keep vehicles in traffic separate according to their size, weight and speed), ...

The problem in the US is crash safety laws. They had to make cars "safer" which required more material into their design making them heavier which required bigger cars with more material just to be safer from other bigger and larger vehicles so the cycle continues so now 3500-4000lb vehicles is now the norm when 30 years ago, that used to be heavyweight territory and a 2700-3000lb car was considered a middle weight vehicle. A lot of vehicles you see being driven outside the US wouldn't be considered street legal based on crash safety regulations alone.

Cars like the MINI have something similar to a roll cage builtin to absorb impact and prevent injuries, sensor-based collision and roll prevention systems exist...

I went through the phase of "change starts with myself" now i just don't care. 99 percent just don't care, they will drive a 20' X 7' metal block, they will get 15 mpg, and they will make the roads unbearable, they will text while doing so, and I'm not going to risk my life in a tiny car or on moped or bicycle to help others out when they do not notice or care.
