A bit more wild life on the early morning rides. I did a ride yesterday evening, then another early this morning without eating much of anything in between.

Hot today and tomorrow, so I think I'll do a second ride this evening and another early one tomorrow.

I don't see baby jackrabbits very often, but they are starting to emerge. They are even more skittish than the adults and don't have the discipline to stay still instead of running.

Went for a 15 mile ride over 2 hours on the ebike. Went and explored a trail that leads to a park, and then rode around the park until I came across a trail within the park I haven't seen.
Riding around and saw a guy with a chainsaw cutting some logs in the bike path. Stopped to help him out as the trail isn't maintained very well.
Got back, reeked of salty sweat and my clothes were soaked save for the square on my ass where I was sitting on my wallet and sweat didn't seep through.
Also hit 200 miles today on it. Has been a blast.
Hitting up the trails tomorrow as it rained a bit yesterday, the little trail I found today was a bit sketch.

Ended up going out again.

Also I do carry a full repair kit but since I couldn't find an obvious cause of my flat I took it back home in case there was something in the tire I missed.

Have had rice size piece of metal that took me a few tubes to find.

This was my fastest and longest ride (in terms of mileage) to date. It took me just short of 4 hours to ride 50 miles 3 weeks ago. I need to start taking pictures during my rides and start chasing elevation gain though. How do you guys make friends with the cyclists in your area apart from joining clubs? Do you just chase them down on your bike after running into them a couple of times? I assume clubs aren't really having group rides right now. (Ignore the average power I don't have a power meter.)

the distance and elevation isn't too rough that's flatland numbers, neither is the wind speed, but that heat and hot air is intense. I been through hotter and longer it sucks. That temperature is when the body is working hard cooling itself down. It's still doable temperatures though, what really sets in with longer efforts is salt depletion.

you're not really fast enough for a club ride. maybe you could find a group for older riders or something, but my club averages 22 mph moving speed. we usually aim for 2000+ ft of elevation gain per 40 miles. You won't be able to ride our routes without getting dropped.

Ok so my knee has mostly healed and feels fine as long as I don't mash on it too hard. I made sure to be gentle and give it plenty of time to heal. Woke up early and decided to take a ride and see the sun rise. The best part of it was how everything smells so fresh and dank in the morning. This entire bog just reeked of herbs and wildflower. The fog was like a cooling mist. It was really nice. Almost ran into a few deer. One of my best rides yet.

That was a failed attempt at a 600. We stopped at a motel for the night in the hope that a 60 km/h headwind would let up. In the morning we did another hour at 12 kph before packing it in and calling for a ride.

Nope just trying finish my first Super Randonneur series. Circumstances keep messing up the 600 for me. 2 DNFs due to awful weather, awful weather cancelling the rides before they started, and a scheduling conflict a few years ago when the weather actually was pretty decent.

I saw this in a post about a stolen bike dumped in a person's yard. Its a testament to how little riding some people do. It probably dates from around 1992. The gears and chainring look practically new, the cracked sidewalls suggest the tires are original, yet they have seen so little use the flashing down the middle hasn't worn off yet. That's the kind of owner BSOs are aimed at. Riding it once they toss it in the garage or backyard.

Some rain coming in later tonight, so I'm going to get a few hours of riding in this evening. I've been tracking down some small Wandrer gaps. I had to tweak my map overlap for them to include an icon since they were too small to otherwise see. Within the city boundary I have about 1.5 km of unridden road segments most of which are less than 10 m long inside cul-de-sacs where I didn't ride it at the proper angle. 1/2 a km is inside a fenced off area that won't open up for a few more weeks.

I love closed roads. While out riding yesterday evening I came across a section of normally busy road under construction. With the workers gone for the day I had it all to myself.

This pedestrian bridge is an anomaly here. Its the only dedicated ped bridge over a roadway in the entire city. Its pretty steep with a tight 180 bend on each end. Limited ways under / over the local motorway and most of them suck due to being narrow with high traffic.

Even though I ride often, mostly the sea where I swim a lot, I don't feel the usual excitement going on long rides, unexplored routes, etc. Maybe because I've been to all the places around many times, but I don't get sparked by the idea of riding 100miles to remote wilderness, then doing a radial hike, it just doesn't resonate in me, and I'm sure the same way feel most of you because the global ''mood weather'' is like this for now. Used to travel a lot, documented unvisited so many places, gorges, river valleys, mountains, put all them on google maps, it's been fun, but not anymore. Been yesterday to some spot with waterfall, just sat and smoked there, the only thing that made me smile was to name that waterfall ''a damn fucking sewage drain''. Swimming felt better, quite refreshing, but in overall I'm feeling like... not good.

Rode up local hill in perfect weather yesterday. Got free apple pie with cream in the restaurant on top because my order took too long.
Tried out the navigation feature of my headunit today as the manufacturer now offers Komoot integration and took a 40km spin on partly unknown roads. Was quite impressed how good it worked.

Very happy, swapped out my drivetrain 4 days ago to a wide-ratio and realized stock chains are too short. Waited 3 days for a new longer chain to come in, then went to try and ride at 7PM. Fucking swimming in humidity.
Woke up early today and managed to get out while it was still only 80 out.
very pleased with my new drivetrain. Love the trigger shifter.

Ok then. Managed to get one pic today with the bike in it. Longest ride of my life today, rode a modest 50 miles. Saw some ducks, turkeys and cranes on a 25 mile route from NW IL to Wisconsin. Nice prairie ecosystems, lots of wildflower and tall grasses. The first half was physical, second half was mental. Cadence slowed to a crawl near the finish and I had to walk up a few climbs. Weather was hot hot hot. It was probably too much for my fat ass but I powered through. Really glad I went through with it. I'd like to give touring or bikepacking a serious shot so I need to train for long rides.

Some changes of hand position would have been nice. Wrist pain became apparent near the end. But the 35mm tires did really excell once the path turned to gravel so I was thankful for that.

Are brakes hidraulic? If so, it would be a bit more difficult to switch to a dropbar. Anyway, i would try lowering the handlebar, moving the seat as forward as possible and potencially sawing off 2cm of each side of the handlebar too. Maybe the bike is a bit too big for you, but not too much.

I believe so. Yeah sizing could be off. I basically said the guy at the shop, "Does this look like the right size?" he said yeah and I bought it. It wasn't even set up for me. The hybrid is great for getting around town and beer runs but I may just look into something else completely for long rides. Maybe one of those steel touring bikes or a grabbel bike. At the same time, my body just needs time to adjust and I think if I keep riding these issues will mostly go away. This was more than twice as long as my previous longest ride.

btw i found out this is Glacial Park in Ringwood, IL and the trail is called the Prairie Trail. its part of a 500 mile trail system so if anybody is ever in the area I recommend checking it out.

I rode 25 miles in the 95 degree heat and I would have been a cycling lobster but I bought this whiteboi 100spf stuff that looks like 60s style suntan lotion with the zinc oxide.

I found out that riding on the access roads that run parallel to US highways is underrated. half the journey on the parkway I didn't see a single car. Unfortunately my destination was bustling Lone Jack which is about as exciting of a turnaround point. Positives: they think masks are a democrat lie there so I was able to hit up the truckstop and get one of those super salty new gatorades and lurk in their AC for a second while I ate animal crackers from my jersey pocket.

Did 220 km today for 1 of only 2 brevets left on our revised schedule for this year. Guy I was riding with bailed at 110 when his knee started acting up. We decided to just carry food instead of stopping like we normally do. His wife dropped off water for us at a few spots.

After a bath tonight when I went to get out of the tub one of my quads cramped hard. After that subsided, I continued to try getting out and the other one went. For a while I was a bit concerned I wouldn't be able to get out. But after the other one loosened up I managed to slowly get out without any further cramps. I don't get cramps often, and fortunately almost never while riding.

Today I did 100 km for the first time ever. I was almost back home but I didnt feel tired so I rode 30 km more to make it happen.
Half way in I peed in bush next to road and stepped in shit. Cleat was fucking covered. I thought it was mud and pinched it with my fingers. Wasted third of my water to clean it.

Im totally wasted right now, feeling cold and tired and cant eat but I am very proud of myself. Only took one crappy picture from Polish border.

So, I finally convinced my partner to get a decent bike. Yesterday she ditched her old, beaten up granny style dutch bike, and today she got a very decent touring / hybrid bike. Alfine 8, disc brakes, a nice lightweight aluminum frame, and all that jazz.

To christen it, we went to Marken, a small town about 20 KM north from Amsterdam. The tour went very well, she can finally more or less keep up (i don't really go fast).

Once we got there, we had a beer and some snacks on a restaurant with a view to a marina, and then we headed home. We ended up getting back at 11:00 PM, but it was worth it.

I overestimated my abilities and took an downhill too fast on a local singletrack. Battered and bruised, but nothing permanent or worse than I was able to ride home. Though I did lose consciousness for a few seconds, likely due to the heavy compression from landing on my chest.
One bent brake handle, and stem twisted on the steere. When I got home I realised I had twisted the bars back the wrong way round so the forks were reversed, which explains why the bike felt wobly on the way home.
I've spent today sleeping, resting and recouperating.

Somewhat frequently after a long exhausting ride I'll get a nocturnal panic attack which really sucks, and I had one last night. Something makes me suddenly get up and head towards the door without actually being conscious. I always wake up at the door, maybe I walk into it and that's what wakes me up. I'd trade his for mine. temps go from mid-70s to low-to-mid90s f in the afternoon, but the humidity is never lower than 40% , 70% is normal, and over 90% is not uncommon here in the US southeast. it's like living in a sauna.

Did a 120 km ride with one other from my club. No intervals, just steady kilometers in the legs. Weather was nice, warm but not really sunny, slight tailwind out and headwind home along the coast. 33 km/h average speed, could have gone faster, but that wasnt on todays program.

I haven't used a speedometer in many years, but I had one when I was younger. there was an extended, straight downhill where I could spin my top gear and before the bottom I'd mash it as hard as I could to try to break my record. 40mph was fast but not hard to reach at that hill, but beyond that it was heavy mashing for marginal gains (and hope traffic stayed clear), plus there was a traffic light at the bottom, so I had to time my attack by reading it from way uphill. my record was 46mph, which google says is 75kph.

It was a 200 participant event, first 100 and so were amateurs, they got started along with the pros. The descent was fresh pavement and was right after the start, amateurs were bunched up. Fresh pavement allowed greater speeds up to 80-90kph, one of the amateurs about the 20th place panic brakes, 50 or so behind plows into each other at around 60kph, one side of the road has metal poles, the other has rocky ditch.
Bad management from the event providers, the amateurs shouldn't be allowed to start with the pros and they shouldn't be allowed to go through that curvy descent stage.
Not my footage, just posting it because no sports news outlets seems to care about posting about such an outrageous massive crash and bad management.
Also the ambulance took their sweet time (15-20 minutes) to get to the scene not far from the start. Shame.

Ventured into the hood again to finish off the last chunk of alleys I hadn't ridden yet this year (apart from downtown). Pretty quiet, though I think most of the gang members and other troublemakers are night owls. Got pretty much the entire city covered for the year. Just parts of the motorway left, which I probably won't do. Traffic isn't bad if I do it early, but there is always debris on the shoulder so I risk getting a flat that I'd have to fix while getting attacked by mosquitoes.

A bunch of cars parked near the arena complex. Saw a guy walking in full hockey gear + ice skates w covers, so must be training camps or something.

Because I'm a NEET, all I really care to do is ride the same loop over and over for some light exercise. I feel good when I do it, and it's challenging enough to actually be worth calling exercise. Went to a local spot that has like 10ish miles of single track, I rode everything both directions and stopped to session anything I couldn't clean first try. It's funny how much a 20 mile mtb ride wears me out compared to a road century. For some reason there was this little plastic statue of a deity from the Santeria religion hanging out on a log after a techy climb. Figured it was a good spot for a photo.

I bought it from a local owner. He said that this bike was previously used in the cycling sport section, so it already had a lightweight duralumin crankset and drop bar, shimano shifters and rear derailleur instead of old Soviet components. I only had to install new tires and a BB on industrial bearings.

Did 35 miles today around my town. I had been prepared for high temps but it only got to 88. The bad news? 20 mph winds. Without sufficient hills those windy days are the best way to harden up.

Finally figured out a route to get to the Gateway trail from the Western suburbs that doesn't consist of 20 miles of rubble and shitty st. paul drivers.

Did a ride thing. 63 km round trip. Largely uneventful along bike routes and quiet backroads. Took a wrong turn at some point and ended up going down a field trail for a good bit, having to cross some tall grass and then going along further field trails. Got rewarded with a nice view for my lunch snack and then punished some more with a narrow forest trail that went steeply downhill and then steeply uphill (had to walk with my bike shouldered) and through more tall grass before magically reappearing on my intended route. Also further into the ride the only road connecting anything to anything was closed for construction and I had to ride through more or less compacted gravel and sand for a good kilometer. Overall nice trip though, would repeat if it weren't for the getting lost part and construction site part.

Did back to back 30 mile days. Riding in the country is very comfy. Encountered few cars but the flowers are all blooming and pollen is through the roof.

Got Conti 5ks put on the bike and Im averaging 1mph faster. The real difference is in taking turns at higher speeds. Sticky.

Garmin Connect still down so I manually uploaded my ride to Strava. The Garmin fit file format is about 1/9th the size of a gpx file, though not surprising considering how bloated xml files are.

Very humid ride this evening. We've had very frequent rain though July so the mosquitoes are starting to get bad.

It's not just the app. It includes dealer resources and other stuff. It's actually pretty fucked up ranging into bizarre. Gives every indication of a major cyberattack, on the scale of something one might normally expect to be directed at a major government, but normally such an attack would not last several days...

More MTB for me because it's averaging like 95 degrees and 85% humidity every day here. Can't bring myself to ride road. I got a new hip hydration pack with a 2L bladder and it's probably the best bike purchase I've made this year, stayed so hydrated I actually had to piss halfway through the ride despite sweating buckets. Making small gains on cleaning features faster, definitely gotta work a bit more on my technical climbing.

When looking through local rides on Strava unfamiliar segment names always catch my eye. The KOM for one I saw yesterday had a top speed of 73 km/h in a 50 zone on a flat road. Then 100 in a 70 zone around the corner.

I was just about to make a local twitter post about the guy speeding when I saw the ride description. "Crashed on wet road, ended up in hospital". So it was probably an ambulance that was speeding.

Wanted to share this since I have no friends.
Year ago I got myself a bike, nothing too fancy, entry level road bike. Back then it took me 3 hours to ride 48 KM.
Today I did the same ride and it only took me 1 hour and 45 something minutes. That's average of 27.5 KM/H.
I know that's probably very bad for the pro riders out there but I'm very proud of myself.
I guess I could go even faster if got myself a proper cycling kit and didn't just use my vans and flat pedals. It was also fairly windy, but anyways, no excuses, I'm happy.

Decided to just cruise for a few hours. Trying to work my way up to a 100km ride but it's hilly as fuck here and I feel like it's gonna be pretty difficult. I was pretty cooked by the end of the ride, feeling good today though.
