Bicycle shoes are usually stiffer to transfer more power. Also, they usually don't have a pattern on the bottom, so they are flush with the pedal, and grip well, wherever you place your foot. Also they have proprietary rubber, that each manufacturer claims is better than the next.

Yes I know what bike shoes are, I have a pair of MTB shoes with a semi-flexible sole, and a pair of road shoes with a carbon sole

I'm wondering what the point of a high top shoe would be, it seems unnecessarily constricting, not breathable, and heavy. The sides would constantly rub against the crank too.

I like my RCs (ride comfort)
80 bux for great grip comfort and durability. kind of a bitch to put on or take off. the toe cap is awesome. frankly nicer than a lot of normie shoes for long term wear.

i went OTB once and smacked my ankle really fucking hard on the stem. if it wasnt for the hightop cushion i would have been out for more than just a couple weeks for sure..

Chucks are too floppy and fragile. I like my Lakai skate shoes but you pick them up and they are obviously very heavy. So does anybody have a rec for stiff, light shoes for pinned flats? Like stiff light weight skate shoes basically.

just get the vans of your choice and use a stiffening insole. i've seen people use half-inserts to keep the heel softer for walking.

Cheap running shoes that have a hard plastic stability part in the center rather than one continuous piece of rubber. So for example not something like the newbalance fresh foam but something stiffer like the asics gt1000

I haven't tried a pair of high top MTB shoes, but I would make the high top stiff side to side to help stop you rolling your ankle when you crash.

I bike using merrel trail glove 5 and large mountain bike pedals.
It's a free running shoe meaning your feet move like you'd have bare feet but the sole is hard as fuck. Comfy on bike and off bike. The longest I've biked during one day was 100km and at least during that I had no issues with feet.

A handful of the the older dudes I ride MTB with swear by 510s. My Dad got a pair recently and also seems pretty stoked. Any thoughts on this brand and specific shoes? Thinking about moving back to flats for off road riding after being clipped for the past couple of years.
