>>1528449I spent years lost in the touring bike wasteland, riding stiff, slow-handling bicycles because they were "practical" and would "last a lifetime". I spent millions on Schwalbe Professional Bike Tire Marathon Almotion tires. And I thought they were fast. I thought I knew everything.
Then I rode a $400 Breezer Downtown. A cheap city bike for women. The tires were supple, and the handling was lively. There was toe overlap, and poorly maintained components. But it felt so good. So nimble. One hand position and a grip shifter. The utility of the bicycle critically low, and dangerously lame. This humble bicycle made me want to ride again. Not for centuries, but down the street. It made me realize I had been lost for so long.
I have seen the light. I will never spend money on a nice bike again. I will ride shit hybrids and city bikes forever. I will never wrap drop bars again. I will never buy the hype again. I will ride paselas and rim brakes. No lugs. No discs. No more nonsense
