there's obviously street art that's really high effort like in your pic that almost anyone would appreciate but most stuff is atleast trying to look good and it's still in the graffiti style i don't even particuraly like the aesthetic but i respect it. also when they're poor and doing it illegally it's not easy to do something really good because they don't have time or many colours.

also bad art is a necessary byproduct of good art.

Berlins graffiti culture is extremely unique and no other first world city has the same attitude toward graffiti that Berlin does. It's very cool and should be preserved. I thought it was pretty simple. Give spray paint artists free license to make street art in the designated places, and they'll be less likely to graffiti something they shouldn't. I reckon getting your mark into the street art laneways has more value to them than tagging public transport.

Germany and europe are in the middle of a street art renaissance similar to NYC in the 70s-80s. Commuter rail graffiti is largely dead in the US, and many artists go to Europe to paint Commuter trains that will be seen by thousands instead of painting freights that might be seen by only a few before getting painted over.

I think the general population is infatuated with the practice to some extent, and seeing the vandalism in real life can be an outsiders look into the largely clandestine/unseen world of graffiti. People find it interesting and different from the ordinary commute.

Alternatively, most people might not see the purpose of interfering. From a money standpoint, the city has people on standby to clean the trains so there's no money saved by stopping one train being painted. The trains are stainless steel so the paint can be powerwashed off in minutes. Once any amount of paint has been sprayed on the train, its gonna have to be washed regardless. So there's no real net gain by intervention.

Lastly, most people don't want to get involved even of theyre against the practice. Is it really worth dealing with police and possibly getting jumped to save one train? Most people aren't foamers, so I'd say it isn't.

What really angers me is when they fuck up something you actually come into contact with - ie public transport, especially if it hinders the functionality such as blocking the view, making info unreadable and such.
Also cars, of course. Tagging some nice looking building is an ass move also, since covering it up distrupts the colour of the whole face of the building. It's really hard to get the colour close to the original.

Nope. There are plenty of designated places for their degenerate art in my neck of woods, usually places like highway sound barriers and such. Outside of those places, it is vandalism and willful destruction of public property. Graffiti "artists" should be given permanent record that will disqualify them from all employment requiring national security clearance of any sort by default for the rest of their lives if they practice their """art""" outside of aforementioned designated places.

I live in Memphis and fuck this thread is old I forgot how slow /n/ is. Anyway part of midtown is now used as a graffiti quarantine zone and it looks pretty nice because they host competitions down there where you can tag for free and some of the paint is already provided.
