Never. Because they aren't dangerous in the hands of plebs. Just because they can go 20+ mph doesn't mean the plebs can ride them at those speeds. You still need a requisite level of fitness and bike handling skills to soak hits and chatter at those speeds, and plebs don't do anything that they perceive as "uncomfortable" like pedaling a high cadence or riding fast over bumps.

This. Some people claim the 250W limit is archaic and too low but if the assist only works up to 25kph why would you need more power anyway? With 250W assist and your own muscle power adding up you're already matching the power output of athletes.

Smaller cargo bikes should be fine with 250W (remember it's the power output of an 80kg person, so even with a heavy cargo bike and 65kg of cargo the power required by you is the same as on a regular bicycle without cargo). Heavier, larger cargo bikes with three or four wheels that are a meter wide belong on car lanes anyway, they're just too big for bike lanes, and that point they can have 4000W and go 45kph with scooter insurance plates (~80€/y) and a motorcycle helmet in my country.

I see too many of them on MUPs that don't allow 'motor vehicles', that clearly aren't pedal-assist types, therefore are basically electric mopeds, therefore should not be allowed.

Force e-bikes to have the same licensing requirements as a moped, pedal-assist or not, and ban them from MUPs. They don't belong in the same space reserved for actual bicycles.

Actually a traditional moped by definition has pedals since the name literally means motor+pedal. The term simply got reused for scooters and other low displacement motorcycles as the world moved on to more powerful vehicles and pedals were abandoned. Now pedals are making a comeback on entry level e-motorcycles because it makes them """assisted bicycles""" and allows for dodging the license and insurance requirements of scooters and motorcycles in some jurisdictions.

My 5600W electric motorcycle is a blast on trails. It can go 50mph, and will get there in a hurry. Bicycle fags always look so assmad, even though I always slow down when nearing any cyclist. The worst are the spandex clad beta males on street bikes.

Depending on where you live I suppose. But you are correct in my case. I ride it wherever I please. I am more than courteous though. I never go past 15mph anywhere that is meant for bicycles, and just avoid anywhere meant for pedestrians in general. Worst case I will pay the ticket, and continue riding where I please. That is the beauty of a nearly silent motorbike that looks more like a bicycle than anything. Most people don't care, especially since I don't ride like a douche.

Pretty much what had been done in germany:

Fine, it's bicycle going bicycle speeds and helps you a little.
>45 km/h 4000W
Needs insuance plate and scooter licence.

Needs a licence plate and motorcycle licence.

IMHO that's pretty reasonable.

Only older models have a legal topspeed of 50 or 60 km/h, the latter only when still made in GDR and have an actual topspeeed of about 70 km/h.
1,5 kW wouldn't be enough to ride a scooter up a hill, you need at least twice that to not get abysmaly slow on every climb.

I built an ebike pushing around 15,000W at full acceleration. Really stealthy, capable of 60mph.

It can really throw you if you are being stupid. In the hands of a responsible capable adult, I don't see any issue.

Honestly I feel no need to continuously push it. I just like to take it to an empty area at midnight and Hoon around without making any noise.

For excersize I just use my regular bike, or you can out Regen on and try to pedal at 5mph lol

Id never take it to a bicycle path, too heavy.

Got an ebike shipment coming in next week,and its just used to get to work faster,literally nobody feels superior using ebikes they just enjoy the ride, the only people who feel like this are faggy cyclist such as yourself

200 mm cranks give you terrible cadence and high torque.
150 mm cranks give you a higher cadence but lower torque.
