not really, its 42 years old and is in the process to extend its life to around 2035.

Great legroom, reassuring diesel growl, high speed and interior full of artifact little BR details despite whatever refurbishment the operating TOC has done.

I also live the cheap & cheerful vibe of the buffet car where you can pay outrageous prices for shitty stewed tea and ready salted Walkers crisps because they never stock Salt & Vinegar

Regarding physical and mechanical condition, all of the ScotRail HSTs were re-engined from 2006-08 under GWR. The Mk.3 carriages were completely refurbished in 2018 after being transferred from them as well. So if the train and cars are basically good as new, what's the point in scrapping and retiring them?

They also added sliding doors to the MK3s recently (2018-202x, refurb still not finished as wabtec is useless) as well as retention and disabled access toilets as part of PRM-TSI and did another overhaul on the powercars.
