uphill is easier on tighter geometry, but it makes downhill twitchy and if you go too tight, dangerous
same with suspension, it creates more areas of inefficient power, losing pedal power to suspension means it's harder to get up the hjill, but going down single track on a fully rigid bike is uncomfortable and difficult
fact is the vast majority of mountain bikers prefer to shred downhill at the costy of a sucky uphill
you can get tighter, lighter, XC race hardtails that swim up hills compared to a 150-180mm full suspension enduro bikes but its at the cost of slower downhills with less control
