living in Atlanta ruins you on airport transit. Marta's southern terminus is inside the airport terminal, and then if your gate is far from the terminal, they have a train inside the airport to reach all the gates.
my total walking from my house to SFO was a block to the Marta station and then a a bit more than that through the terminal between trains. other than plane fare it cost less than 2 bucks (can't remember the fare in 04). but then from SFO to the city was a really long, traffic-y highway drive.
