Am i retard for buying $500 mtb that i only use for exercise every 2-3 weeks.
I try to use it more, but cross country, hs, chores and job get in the way

I had a nice mtb that was twice the cost that I used even less. I worked for it but it was a busy time in my life, enjoy your bike when you can, it helps break the cycle of the daily grind. I'm happy I reached the point in life I have the time to enjoy what I like, you'll get there man

no. there are literally tons of 50 year old men who buy bikes at 10.000$ and use them 2-3 times.
500 dollars is nothing, thats used hardtail territory so just use it or dont. doesnt matter

500€ is max I would use on a nice bike if I ever need one for proper exercising, so I guess is ok.

Meanwhile I'm cheaping out on used 90's MTBs for near nothing every time they get stolen.
They are just nice enough for commuting and JustRide™.

if you are remote working, try using your lunch time to pedal.

i have 1:20 hrs to lunch, perfect time to put about 1 hr riding (30 km and 400m elevation gain) and 20 minutes cleaning body. all that can going bad WILL going bad, any malfunction and you are late to job. so, i cook 2 times at week, so after bath i resume job while eating in desk. maintenance is very important stuff to make this works.
