I grew up in a medium sized town with a river running through it so I got to see shit go from factories to parks and condos. The stuff that's still undeveloped are old superfund sites.

Most big projects that impact the urban fabric stateside are the result of piecemeal capitalist investment. 99.9% of urban planning jobs are very dull shit like thinking about whether or not to change a flashing red to a tree light. I thank Dog everyday I didn't fall into the trap of thinking urban planning is a good career pathway. Lots of people just think their job is going to be Sim City: Real Life.
