>>1551719It depends on the snow. Not great on powder deeper than about 8 cm, but once a trail is established it usually sets up firmer over night. Though if the snow was deep that trail would be very difficult to ride, worse than trying to ride along a balance beam since if your tires hit the side of the rut the wheel will get pulled in that direction.
Where they really shine is if you have a lot of paths that don't get ploughed but receive a lot of foot traffic. The hard foot trampled divots are hell on most bikes, but the fat tires make it feel like they aren't even there.
