there is no contradiction here.
Some people buy bikes with either of those two things specifically in mind. Not just as a 'maybe' versatility concession to cuck themselves.
think about a road bike on gravel like driving a regular car on a gravel road. It's fine unless the gravel road is particularly bad or you want to go fast. You wouldn't not buy a regular car for mostly driving on paved roads just because you maybe might drive on a gravel road now and then.
And actually people do sometimes cuck themselves with pigfat SUVs because of the versatility meme.
