making smart-everything and IoT is the most indefensibly fucking retarded endeavor in the history of human technology. I'm a software engineer and i HATE this shit. It completely ruined everything at once: the userbase is room temp IQ retards, the devs make shit bloated adware code that runs at 5000x the computational cost it should, the industry is more concerned with making marketeable apple-like cosmetic products instead of innovating, and everything has to be an app on some stupid silicon valley platform made by millionaire liberal schizos. The only good engineering they put into things is when they ask themselves "how do we keep complete monopoly, keeep planned obsolescence going now that moore's law is no longer a thing, and make the users hate us even more while keeping them unable to leave our products at the same time?"
Everyone thought RMS was a kook when he said 'closed and proprietary software and hardware means devs/corporations can exercise power over their users", look at things now.
Worst yet, people LOVE this. How dare you mod your tesla, you are breaching the 4000 page contract you automatically signed when you turned it on 6 months ago, i shall now revoke ownership of the vehicle you bought because of it and ban you from our extended services. Please buy another car and this time remember: you pay for it in full, but you're still leasing it."
Right to repair is completely excised from newer products that come from these smart whatever companies. Apple doesn't sell spare parts to repair shops and won't fix your shit. You don't own any of it. You own a lease. Buy another one if you want to use our products. You don't like it? cool, you can't use an entire ecosystem now (shitty as it is, if you need something specific, you're FUCKED unless you know how to hackintosh, until those new ARM CPUs hit the market)
What happened to buying a fridge and it behaves like a fridge? At least i can hack goatse into more screens now.
