I'm about to get into my car, a Volvo 850, to go where a train can't take me. Roads and cars are a necessity for the life style of the modern civilization. But i take the train on longer journeys or commuting, if possible.
Water for freight, air for specialized services. Air should remain a luxury, not as in unobtainable for the lower classes, but as a rarity. Only certain prioritized cargo and the occasional travel, should be by air. Long distance, it's a priority to use it, as other mean of travel would take too long. But as the general public in Europe choose trains over air, when the travel time is 4 hours or shorter, i pulling the average up, by choosing rail over planes until a 8 hour travel by train.
