>>1558563If you ever go read what some of the old Luftwaffe staff had to say on the 104's procurement, I want to say it was specifically Hartman specifically said it went more like.
>Need new plane that can kill tanks for when those Eastern Euros come across Fulda.>No modern aircraft production capable of producing what they needed locally>None of their neighbors are going to sell them a license for production for any kind of military equipment>Want Americans to like us more so we'll buy what they got>Get sold an interceptor to perform ground attack sorties F-104 was alright at the job it was built for, but politicians being the retards that they are (not that the bribes from lockheeb didn't help their decision) just assumed that combat aircraft means it can do combat with things on the ground, which the sort of made work after extensive modifications but it was never intended for the role the Germans needed at the time but it's what they had so, they made due until the first alternative presented itself.
I don't think anybody who actually flew in the Luftwaffe in those years actually thought it was a good design for what they needed.
