Just rebuild them with 737-7 NG engines. Which aren't nearly oversized enough to cause handl9ng difficulties.

It's way too early to tell. It's a good and efficient airplane that there's a huge demand for. The plane still has many years ahead of it, and the commoners will forget about the crashes when they see cheap tickets.

The engines were the whole point of building the max.

Basically, an engine with a larger fan is more efficient. Airbus came up with the A320neo with new larger engines that were way more efficient than those of the 737NG, thus Boeing needed the MAX quickly.

youre delusional. the MAX isnt going to get reengined, it wouldnt be cost effective for either party involved, and thats who dictates whats happening. the reality is that the MCAS system is going to get an update and revised training, and thats that. if youre hoping for some design revolution, or poetic justice, youre out of luck.

The neo engines arent really notably more efficient than the MAX engines. They just don't require flight pattern adjustments because the neo airframe was already high enough off the ground to accommodate them.

tbf, the failure of the 747-8i was mostly on boeing. they didnt play ball with deals like airbus did, and failed to secure enough major airlines to get momentum going.

Because it literally wouldn't have been profitable, even at scale, to do so. If they had discounted the shit out of hundreds of planes (more discounted than the normal sales process for commercial aircraft) in order to "get momentum", the program would have been in a permanent and deeper financial hole than it already was.

And even then, the aircraft still would have been put to pasture early because they just can't compete with big twins. And no reason to go all in on the passenger version if your theory is "well we'll convert them to freighters later". Your better off building the freighters from the start or converting the glut of retired 744s.

Uh, they kept scaling back the program and eventually cancelled it. That lost a lot less money than the route Airbus took. The only other thing you could (rightly) argue is that they shouldn't have revamped the 747 in the first place.

much like the A380 itself, the aircraft is not the major monkey maker. this is why these deals are even done in the first place, as the cost of logistics makes up the cost of the discount (if that even is the route chosen, there are more ways to appeal than this) and then some. this is why airbus has even bothered with the A380 past its initial lauch, and why the program was a success from their standpoint.
