How long is your average ride? I’ve talked to a few cyclists now and some say it’s just 3-5 miles every other day while others say 30 miles daily. I really have no clue what even constitutes a cyclist at this point. My rides are generally 1-2 hours in length ranging from 10 miles to 25 miles. Haven’t done more than that

i go out in the evenings and do 30 mins - 2 hours

don't count km but i like riding up hills the most
I think this is a sweet spot for just feeling good generally.

Do long rides 100km-200km a few times a year.

Friel talks about it a bit in his book that Athletes aren't healthy and that they're actually far more prone to heart attacks etc.

Being a roadie is fun but it's not good for you. What's good for you is a far more moderate version of cycling, probably like what you're doing now.

Before winter fucked everything up the ass I'd do 25-40 miles every other day. Haven't come up with a route yet for anything longer than that without doing laps or riding with traffic on the highway.

depends on your definition of an athlete then i suppose. how high does your heart rate even get during a cycling session? probably averages 140-150bpm for most which is quite low compared to runners

32km commute every weekday before covid, now i work from home i do a 160-200km ride most weekends. Much happier riding to new places and using my energy for fun instead of just getting to work.

At the moment around 30-40km once or twice a month, I hope I can at least double the frequency and the range over the next six months, though.

I have done this 12-15 mile route 2-3x a week since 2015 never crashed but I have gone flat a few times.
