I still probably ride more during winter than 99.9% of this board. But you can't do proper training outdoors in real winter. Either the roads are in too bad condition to ride fast enough or it's too cold to ride fast, or both.

Elite Direto X with my 105 road bike on it.

Sitting infront of my tv, which is connected to a Windows pc.

I don't use Zwift because its stupid expensive. I use RGT for riding courses, which is free.
For intervall training and ERG mode training I use the software by Elite, which came with the trainer.

The temperature isn't the problem, breathing cold air is. I constantly have a metallic taste in the mouth and it takes away the performace. I don't ride out of boredom in the sassy wattage area like you guys, I ride to git gud.

Theres also tons of wet leaves on the ground which is a whole nother story. But calm down, I already put fenders on my bike for the winter. When the wheater is good, I'll ride.

People found that indoor training in the garage staring at the wall is boring as fuck. This is why zwift & co are so succesful. It's the gamification of fitness efforts, which makes everything a lot more fun, interesting and social.

If you hate fun you can continue staring at the wall while on the roll trainer.

Cold air and altitude/extra weight are nothing alike. Cold air literally fucks up your lungs and airways if you're going fast. Altitude just makes you go slower because there less oxygen, extra weight just slows you down. The problem with winter isn't that you're slower. It's that you physically can't go fast without fucking up your lungs. Besides the current meta of altitude training is to train low with full power and rest high in limited oxygen

I ski as cross training when it's not cold as balls outside, I do fat biking in winter also, I commute to work 15 km every day on a bike no matter the weather. All of those are low intensity Z2 level efforts which means much less need for breathing. Something you can do through your nose or with a mask easily. Going fast in cold weather is the problem. I've ridden bikes in -40, yes you can do that, but it won't work as a training.

Why are trainers like that always tire-driven and not direct drive? You'll need to replace the rear wheel with one with trainer tire anyway, might as well skip the middleman and strap the bike into the trainer itself.

ngl, this is the only real benefit to indoor cycling but might as well get a stationary bike at that point. I don't even watch tv and movies anymore and I like riding outside because I'm not a fag or scared of winter

Long ago I bought some second hand rollers, the chain was fucked so I use them with the front wheel support. Riding on it is painful, it's boring and I sweat a lot, I must put a recipient on the floor or it will be flooded with sweat.But it is nice, you can move your legs inside home, and can watch series/anime while riding.

I would love riding on winter, but I sweat too much and the riding experience becomes miserable when you are riding with wet and cold clothes.

I ride naked except bibs, socks and gloves with a towel on my neck that i use for the sweat. The gloves are to protect the bar tape from all the sweat. Wipe your bike really good right after riding.
